Communications and Community Engagement Specialist

Job Title: Communications and Community Engagement Specialist

Hours: Permanent, full-time

Location: Peel, Ontario (Hybrid)
Salary Range: $35 – $45 /hr

Metamorphosis is a nonprofit network serving Peel Region, made up of over 100 non-profit agencies that, for decades, have formed the backbone of community services in Peel. Our purpose is to collaborate and advocate to achieve enhanced client service, knowledge transfer and service improvements for residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Celadon.

Position Summary:
The Metamorphosis Network is seeking to hire a dynamic and driven communications and community engagement coordinator to engage in the successful implementation of the Network’s community engagement and communication priorities in collaboration with the administrative team of the Network. This role will report to the Coordinator of the Metamorphosis Network.

Responsibilities (but not limited to):
● Regularly develop content for newsletters, social media accounts, websites, and print materials.
● Oversee regular website and social media account updates.
● Lead efforts to engage partners in promoting Network messages and amplifying Network content.
● Facilitate public participation in Network initiatives including e-actions, town halls and email campaigns.
● Support with the facilitation and coordination of Network events including members meetings, town halls, and events with support from the administrative team.
● Coordinate, support, manage, and monitor all internal and external media requests such as radio requests and TV interviews with members of the Leadership Team.
● Liaise with diverse groups, including community partners, media outlets, and advocacy organizations, to foster collaboration and increase engagement.
● Create regular media monitoring reports on new and emerging areas of interest to the Leadership Team.
● Positively and professionally represent the Network in the community by participating and collaborating with community partners on various projects and initiatives as requested.

Qualifications:
● 3+ years of relevant work experience in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field of profession.
● In-depth knowledge of media relations best practices and procedures.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media account management including Facebook, X, and Instagram.
● Excellent written communication and editing skills.
● Strong organizational skills and experience managing various projects with competing deadlines.
● Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusive practices.
● Available to work flexible hours, remotely and in-person as needed.
● Understanding of the social service sector in the Greater Toronto Area, especially the Region of Peel, will be considered as an asset.
● Aptitude with communications tools like Mailchimp and graphic design programs such as Canva or Adobe Suite and knowledge of HTML/CSS will be considered an asset.
● Skilled in adapting communication strategies and translating research or policy documents into clear, accessible formats for diverse audiences.
● Knowledge of public policy / public policy reform is an asset but not mandatory.
