Research Specialist

Job Title: Research Specialist

Location: Peel, Ontario (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $45-$60/hr, depending on experience

Contract Position: 4 months

Metamorphosis Network is a nonprofit network serving Peel Region, made up of over 100 non-profit agencies that, for decades, have formed the backbone of community services in Peel. Our purpose is to collaborate and advocate to achieve enhanced client service, knowledge transfer and service improvements for residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.

Position Summary: The Metamorphosis Network is seeking to hire a research specialist to conduct a study on funding for community services in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. The study will build on the research released by the Metamorphosis Network in 2024 (which can be found on our website at communitymetamorphosis.ca or at bit.ly/PeelReport. The research will document the degree of underfunding in at least 10 specific areas of local community services and the impacts of those shortfalls. The research will draw on multiple data sources including provincial and municipal reports, statistical summaries provided by nonprofits and public sector bodies, and primary research on public sector and nonprofit organizations. Research staff are expected to collaborate on the research design, lead the execution of data gathering, and work jointly with Metamorphosis staff on the development of a summary report.

Responsibilities (but not limited to):

• Analyze provincial datasets including Municipal Financial Information Returns, budgets and ministry reports on funding by jurisdiction.
• Analyze municipal data sets including Region of Peel reports on funding allocations, local municipal dashboards and open data portals.
• Analyze agency-specific data and aggregate data across agencies.
• Assess the commensurability of data sets from multiple jurisdictions.
• Summarize and contrast data across jurisdictions.
• Draft reports on the contents and implications of the data.
• Present data and summaries of data to the staff and leadership of the network, municipal officials and elected representatives.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of relevant work experience in research on public services and/or policy.
• In-depth knowledge of research practices, municipal and provincial funding systems and municipal and provincial reporting mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical and data assessment skills.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Strong skills in data presentation, data visualization and knowledge transfer.
• Strong organizational skills and experience managing complex, multi-part projects with tight deadlines.
• Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusive practices.
• Available to work flexible hours, remotely and in-person as needed.
• Understanding of the social service sector in the Greater Toronto Area, especially the Region of Peel, will be considered as an asset.
• Knowledge of public policy / public policy reform is an asset, but not mandatory.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.

The Change Lab is a nonprofit organization specializing in social development and public policy reform. We are committed to fostering positive change through grassroots community action that supports marginalized communities.

Position Summary: The Change Lab is seeking to hire thoughtful, energetic, detail-oriented team member who can be at the centre of a complicated web of activity, overseeing schedules, finances and operations as we implement significant change efforts with a diversity of partners and funders. This role will report to the Executive Director of The Change Lab.

Responsibilities (include but not limited to): 

  • Manage operations for The Change Lab including tracking and managing finances and systems.
  • Oversee the schedule and work priorities for the team.
  • Manage payments and revenues and track both using QuickBooks software.
  • Monitor email and identify priorities for the team.
  • Draft and manage critical correspondence.
  • Coordinate staff meetings and track deliverables.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements in consultation with the Executive Director.

Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in a senior administrative role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing various projects with competing deadlines.
  • Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusive practices.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, remotely and in-person as needed.
  • Understanding of the social service sector in the Greater Toronto Area, will be considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge of public policy / public policy reform is an asset but not mandatory.
